HYROX is not a start-up anymore, it's a structured, professional sport, here to stay and with Olympic ambitions.
The HYROX Coaches Summit marked an important milestone in the evolution of the sport. What was once a fast-growing, somewhat chaotic competitive format is now clearly transitioning into a more mature and structured performance ecosystem.
From an organizational standpoint, the ambition remains unchanged. The execution however, is much more controlled, more deliberate, and more professional.
Hosting a Coaches Summit for the first time at this level is a strong signal of that shift.
A Sport That Is Raising Its Own Standard
One of the most notable aspects of the summit was the quality of the audience.
Coaches, practitioners, and performance specialists came together with a shared goal:
raise the standard of HYROX performance.
This was not just about winning races. The discussions focused on:
- Improving programming methodologies
- Enhancing athlete development pathways
- Understanding performance limitations
- Applying more objective data to decision-making
This collective mindset is what drives real progression in sport.
Train.Red at the Coaches Summit
Train.Red was present with a booth and in the presentation from Hidde Weersma and Thierry Willigenburg, contributing to the ongoing conversation around performance in HYROX.
Our focus was clear:
adding a deeper physiological layer to how performance is understood and developed.
Current performance models in HYROX are typically built around visible outputs:
- Strength
- Aerobic capacity
- Skill execution
- Pacing strategies
While these remain essential, they often lack insight into the underlying physiological mechanisms that drive performance.
Shining a New Light on Performance
During our presentation, we introduced a different perspective, one that focuses on what is happening inside the muscle during competition and training.
By leveraging muscle oxygenation data, coaches and athletes can move beyond assumptions and better understand:
- Where and why fatigue occurs
- How different stations impact local muscle demand
- The interaction between central and peripheral limitations
- How pacing strategies translate into physiological stress
This approach does not replace existing coaching frameworks.
It strengthens them by making them more objective, individualized, and actionable.
The Level Is Rising Fast
A clear takeaway from the summit:
the level within HYROX is increasing rapidly.
As more coaches adopt structured methodologies and data-driven approaches, the margin for error becomes smaller.
Athletes are becoming more complete.
Coaches are becoming more precise.
And performance is becoming less about guesswork.
Everybody wants to see measurable adaptation.
Looking Ahead
The HYROX Coaches Summit reflects a broader shift in the sport:
- From intuition → to data-informed decision-making
- From general programming → to individualized development
- From competition → to a full performance ecosystem
Train.Red is committed to supporting this evolution by providing tools and insights that help coaches and athletes better understand and improve performance.
Because as the sport grows, so should the way we train for it.
